  • Parque Nacional Tulum

    Address:
Parque Nacional Tulum, Caleta Yalku, Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico .

The Tulum National Park is a national treasure for good reason – its delicately preserved archaeological compound and ruins of Tulum.

It is an eco-archeological site situated on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula with stunning cenotes and views of Yucatan’s most dramatic coastline. It was one of the last Mayan cities to fall to the Spanish and the cenotes you can visit today were a great water source and place of ritual for the Mayans.

Whilst at the park you’ll notice the preservation of vegetation including chit trees, coconut palms and creeping plants. The park is probably most famous for the white sea turtles, loggerhead turtles and leatherbacks who all lay their eggs here once a year.

It’s best to arrive early at this park to avoid the crowds if you can for an uninterrupted dip in Tulum’s crystal clear waters.

  • Laguna de Kaan Luum

    Address:
Laguna de Kaan Luum, laguna kaan luum, Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico .

Laguna de Kaan Luum is a transparent, shallow lake with shining waters circling a deep cenote (sinkhole). At a depth of approximately 262 feet, the waters’ colour at the centre is unusually affected, making this lake a marvellously scenic spot.

The lake is just southwest of the centre of Tulum in Quintana Roo on Calle de Chetumal-Cancun. It’s distinct from other cenotes in that it’s larger and looks more like a lake than a cenote. The mixture of green and blue water is vibrant and appealing, but the centre is dangerous due to its currents, so it is closed to visitors.

  • Gran Cenote

    Address:
Gran Cenote, Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico .

The Gran Cenote in Tulum is one of the most popular tourist attractions for travellers heading to Mexico’s Riviera Maya. Cenotes – natural sinkholes filled with water and surrounded by soaring limestone rock walls – are synonymous with this region of Mexico. The water is a beautifully vibrant blue and it's easy enough to reach with the help of a taxi or rental car. Cenotes rank highly on lists of top things to do when travelling to Tulum, especially the Gran Cenote – possibly the best-known of them all.

Travellers can visit just for the outdoor adventure aspect (after all, how many of your friends can say they climbed into an underground cavern for a bit of freshwater swimming?) or for the nature aspect. The cenote is filled with bats, birds and geological features. Whatever your reason for visiting Tulum’s Gran Cenote, you’re sure to come back with tales of stunning scenery.
